Alnylam was founded in 2002 on a revolutionary vision and bold mission which remain firmly in place today. We are leading the translation of RNA interference (RNAi) into a new class of innovative medicines with the potential to transform the lives of people with rare genetic, cardio-metabolic, hepatic infectious, and central nervous system diseases with unmet need. Our first medicine, the first-ever RNAi therapeutic, has recently been approved by the FDA in the US  for the treatment of the polyneuropathy of hereditary transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis in adults and by the European Medicines Agency in the EU for the treatment of hATTR amyloidosis in adults with stage 1 or stage 2 polyneuropathy. In addition, Alnylam has four investigational medicines in late-stage development. 

This role will be responsible for the establishment and execution of Alnylam’s operations in the countries. The General Manager will develop and execute the go to market strategy across multiple products, building and maintaining a high performing cross-functional organization within the countries.  The GM will ensure exceptional commercial, financial and compliance performance of the country organizations; build Alnylam’s reputation for delivering value to patients, healthcare system stakeholders and society in the countries; ensure Alnylam’s local team contributes effectively to Alnylam’s cross-functional goals (e.g. trial enrollment); and build an organization that is passionate, engaged, and feels strongly connected to the Company culture and values.

This role will report to the SVP Regional Head, Europe, Middle East and Africa & Canada (CEMEA) and will be a member of the Regional Management Team.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Build and lead a high performing cross-functional country organization in both Spain & Portugal

Design local go-to-market strategy for Alnylam’s portfolio, ensure high quality execution and successful launch of multiple products

Customer and healthcare stakeholder engagement

Appropriate solutions to optimize the value of Alnylam’s medicines for patients and stakeholders

Pricing and access strategy and execution, including innovative value propositions

Policy engagement

Ensure strong commercial and financial performance including effective forecasting and planning and appropriate resourcing of key activities across the organization

Ensure effective distribution solutions within the countries to bridge from Alnylam’s global supply chain to patients

As Alnylam’s responsible legal representative in the countries, ensure flawless compliance with country regulations and company policy, including healthcare compliance, financial controls, pharmacovigilance and other legal obligations.

Ensure strong cross-functional integration within the country organizations at the level of product teams, field force and country management team

Collaborate with global and regional functional leaders and provide matrix oversight to Medical affairs, Finance, HR and Legal staff

Work within Alnylam Network operating model to:

Ensure strong product strategy alignment with the regional and global team and other countries

Via the regional marketing, access and commercial (MAC) teams, provide high quality input to the global MAC and program teams, to ensure that trial design meets country access needs, to ensure that global product strategies and tactics are appropriate for the countries, and to help assess early stage product opportunities

Collaborate with partners as appropriate to optimize performance

A proven career in the biopharmaceutical commercial industry including at significant experience in the Spain and Portugal

Demonstrated leadership as General Manager, including international matrix leadership and full P&L responsibility

Success in building teams and in launching new products in Rare Diseases is essential
